Your First Defense Against a Costly Lawsuit

An important part of any Vermont business plan should be general liability insurance. A commercial general liability insurance policy, or CGL, is the most common form of insurance to cover your legal liability for claims arising out of your business premises, operations, products, and completed operations. Regardless of your industry or the products and services you provide, as a business owner you are susceptible to lawsuits. Suits can be filed by a visitor who slips and falls on your premises; by a competitor who claims you used their idea in your advertisement; by a customer whose property was damaged while in your care. Coverage applies to bodily injury and property damage claims. The CGL policy will not protect you from everything. We invite you to consult with one of our commercial insurance specialists and learn about your best defense against liability claims with general liability insurance.

A VT Commercial General Liability insurance policy has three basic coverage parts:

Bodily Injury and Property Damage – claims involving injury or damage to people and property.

Personal Injury and Advertising Injury – protects against offenses such as false arrest, wrongful eviction, slander or libel, or infringement of copyright.

Medical Payments – covers bodily injury due to accidents, regardless of fault, that occur on your premises or because of your operations.

Should you be sued, the CGL policy also covers the cost of your legal defense to include any settlement or award to the claimant. General liability protection can be broadened with added coverage like Products/Completed Operations (liability protection for damages and legal expenses if an injury resulted from something your company made or a service your company provided).

Commercial General Liability Insurance can be purchased as a separate policy or as part of a Business Owners Policy or BOP, as it is commonly referred. Request a free insurance cost review today!
